PERSONAL ASSISTANT/COMPANION FOR ENERGETIC SENIOR – BOULDER, COLORADO
PERSONAL ASSISTANT/COMPANION FOR ENERGETIC SENIOR – BOULDER, COLORADO
Our Boulder, Colorado client is in need of an experienced and engaging Personal Assistant/Companion who enjoys spending time with seniors and is comfortable working out of the client’s home in the flats of Boulder and in the mountains.
Principal would like someone grounded and professional who engages with them in conversation; crossing back and forth with supporting client and offering the space to feel independent is important, while respecting the need for privacy. Ensuring that client is participating in activities, going to movies or museums, any kind of activity that helps to elevate a mood or help the client engage outside of the home but also recognizing when the client just wants to sit and watch television. Being empathetic and sensitive to their moods, and finding other activities to do around the house while they require personal time to themselves is important.
Client is a big sports fan, and regularly attends Rockies baseball games in Denver; a sports enthusiastic PA will really enjoy this job! The PA will drive and accompany client to weeknight evening and weekend games. For late nights, client may request the PA stay at the condo with them, next to the stadium in Denver in a guest room. Driving the principal to and from wherever they need to go is a large part of the position (Assistant will use principal’s vehicle), so you must be comfortable with driving in all weather (snow, sleet, rain, etc.) conditions.
The Assistant should be pet friendly (and allergy-free) to provide pet care and back up support; at times helping to empty the litter box or letting the dogs out when needed. When principal is traveling, the PA will arrange the pet sitters, (which sitter is working and covering which dates?), hire more pet sitters, etc., checking in after the pet sitter leaves to ensure everything in the home and with pets are copasetic; make sure the litter box is checked, etc. There is a check list to make sure it’s all done; dishes not in sink, no food in microwave – that sort of thing.
Other duties will include Assistant getting any vendors or contractors invoiced and paid. This is a new role for the principal, so there will be a learning period where client will need some time to feel totally comfortable with the Assistant to have access to all credit cards and build trust. Client likes to be in charge of some of these things, and will do most things on their own, but a resourceful, helpful PA who can offer support in administrative areas is a plus. Computer skills/tech skills are necessary. MAC products and tech device troubleshooting is very helpful.
Principal uses NetJets for booking private travel, the assistant will coordinate and travel with the principal as needed and interface with NetJets and commercial travel coordinators and family office personnel. The Assistant must be very patient and understanding, ability to provide over communicating, and help client to eliminate any confusion(with tech, or appointments, etc.).
Knowing how to navigate sensitive topics with the principal is imperative to be successful in this position, you will not always agree, but knowing how to handle the client’s point of view diplomatically as the principal will say what comes to mind; having thick skin and knowing how to be graceful with various conversations and a sense of humor would be accommodating. Making the principal feel heard and letting them know that they are making the choices or what is happening. “I understand” “I hear you, I hear there is a problem” “I am working to correct the problem”.
There is a list of ad-hoc projects that might come up – managing calendar, travel, purchasing tickets and keeping track of ticket credits if there is a cancellation (good Excel spreadsheet or application tracking systems would be helpful). Tracking the Rockies games season tickets – who is going if client gives or donates tickets back. Tax deduction to track when client gives back donated tickets.
They would prefer someone local to the area and familiarity with driving in inclement weather and snow. Relocation is not offered for this position.
