FAMILY ASSISTANT NEEDED FOR UES FAMILY-MANHATTAN, NY 

Our UES/Manhattan clients are seeking a reliable and energetic, sporty and educated individual to fulfill the position of a Family Assistant. The children are aged 12 and 17, with the 17-year-old mostly attending boarding school; the primary responsibilities of this role include providing after-school care for the 12 year old, school pick-ups, cooking meals, assisting with homework, light cleaning, organizing, playing and watching sports, and proficiently handling computer tasks such as filling out camp forms. Additionally, the candidate will be required to pick up the 12-year-old son from school, engage in sports-related activities, and ensure a well-structured routine.

Responsibilities:

  • Pick up the 12-year-old son from school; bring home and/or to extracurricular activities
  • Assist with homework and maintain a consistent schedule
  • Cook dinner and provide after-school snacks (with an emphasis on healthy options)
  • Perform light housekeeping tasks, including tidying up and managing the dishwasher
  • Place orders for fresh products and maintain inventory
  • Assist with vacation planning, including filling out camp forms
  • Act as a tutor for academic subjects, particularly algebra and other classes
  • Encourage the development of independence and self-sufficiency in the child
  • Engage in sports activities and outdoor play with the child
  • Accompany the child to various activities and appointments
  • Handle personal assistant tasks such as filling out school forms, organizing supplies, and scheduling appointments
  • Maintain a positive and upbeat attitude while fulfilling duties

Requirements:

  • College degree
  • Previous experience working with children and providing after-school care
  • Proficiency in homework assistance, particularly algebra and related subjects
  • Strong organizational and computer skills
  • Ability to multitask and prioritize responsibilities effectively
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Enthusiasm for sports and the ability to engage in physical activities
  • Flexibility with working hours, including late evenings (Tuesday/Thursday) as needed
  • Positive and optimistic outlook
  • Must have a valid driver’s license and clean driving record

This is a paid hourly position, Monday to Friday, with a starting time of 1 pm during the school year. The exact working hours can be flexible, but availability is required during the son’s school hours. Occasional late evenings may be necessary, and compensation will be provided accordingly. Summer hours will be discussed with the candidate and are different from the school year hours.

Energetic candidates who possess a sporty nature and a genuine interest in engaging with the child through sporting activities. Sports knowledge and enthusiasm, particularly in related events such as drafts, would be highly valued.

Seeking a responsible and motivated individual who enjoys providing family assistance while being actively involved in a child’s development and doesn’t mind helping with tidying up and other ad-hoc duties is appreciated.

Location: Upper East Side (UES) of Manhattan

Contract Length: Part-time/permanent

Schedule: Exact schedule is TBD with flexibility (20-25 hours per week, not a full time position)

Salary: $40/hour DOE
